- Notification preferences — Your choices about which push notifications you'd like to receive
Collected Automatically
- Device information — Device type, OS version, and app version for compatibility and debugging
- Usage data — Basic app interaction data and crash reports to improve stability
What We Don't Collect
- Precise GPS location or continuous location tracking
- Contacts or address book data
- Financial or payment information (Screenary is currently free)
- Browsing history outside the app
- Health, biometric, or sensitive personal data
How We Use Your Information
- Provide the service — Display your ratings, track watch progress, power your activity feed, and connect you with friends
- Generate recommendations — Suggest TV shows based on your ratings, watch history, and what your friends are watching
- Calculate community data — Aggregate anonymous ratings to produce season averages, quality curves, and trending info
- Send notifications — Deliver friend requests, likes, comments, and social updates per your preferences
- Improve the app — Analyze usage patterns in aggregate to fix bugs and enhance the experience
How We Share Your Information
With Other Users
- Friends can see your profile, stats, ratings, watch status, watchlist, activity feed, and friends list
- Non-friends can only see your username, location, and lists you've marked public
- Your ratings contribute to anonymous community averages visible to all users
Third-Party Services
- TMDB — Queried for TV show metadata. Your personal data is not shared.
- OMDb API — Used to retrieve external ratings for display. Your personal data is not shared.
- AWS S3 — Profile photos are stored securely with appropriate access controls.
- APNs / Firebase FCM — Used to deliver push notifications.
- Sell your personal information to anyone
- Share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- Use your data for targeted advertising
- Provide your information to any third party for marketing purposes
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of Screenary, our users, or the public.
Data Storage & Security
Your account data is stored in a PostgreSQL database. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and never stored in plain text. Profile photos are stored on AWS S3 with appropriate access controls. Sessions are secured using JWT authentication.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Your Choices & Rights
- Edit your profile — Update your email, location, and avatar at any time
- Control visibility — Set lists as public or private; only friends see your full profile
- Manage notifications — Customize which push notifications you receive
- Delete ratings and reviews — Remove any rating or review you've submitted
- Remove friends — Unfriend users at any time
- Delete your account — Contact us to request full deletion of your account and data
Children's Privacy
Screenary is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top and notify users through the app where appropriate.
